It was directed by Gordon Douglas, and was adapted from a story by Sam Rolfe. The screenwriter was Irving Wallace. Leonard Rosenman composed the film score. The first choice for the lead was Tab Hunter who turned it down as he was tired of military roles.[1] It was filmed at Castle Air Force Base and March Air Force Base California. It concerns the introduction of the B-52 Stratofortress to the Strategic Air Command and the dilemma of a respected and experienced mechanic having to choose between the importance of life in the US Air Force or making a large amount of money in civilian life.
